After-Bath Care for Your Baby

Bath time is a great bonding activity for the baby and the parent. Most babies enjoy being given a bath and the feel of splashing about in lukewarm water. It is important that the baby is always attended to while in the bath. All baby products being used during and after a bath should be kept within easy reach so that you do not need to leave the baby unattended at any time during the bath.

Drying the Baby After Bath

If the baby is being bathed in a bathtub, ensure that you support the baby’s head and neck when lifting him / her out of the bath. Lower the baby on to his / her back on a soft, clean, dry towel. Pat the skin gently to dry the baby. Pay special attention to the folds of the skin at the neck, behind the ears, armpits, elbows, knees and groin areas. Moisture tends to collect in these areas leading to dry skin rash and fungal infections. Massage the baby with a mild after-shower body oil like PIGEON Baby Oil. Massaging the baby with body oil after a bath helps to improve blood circulation and helps the baby to take a good nap.

Once the after-bath oil is fully absorbed into the baby’s skin, seal the moisture in with a moisturizer for the body and face. PIGEON Baby Lotion is one of the best moisturizers for the dry skin of babies. Infused with natural ingredients like Jojoba and Chamomile, it is hypoallergenic and is the best body lotion for dry skin of little babies that may be sensitive to other creams for the body.

Ensure that the baby is dressed up and placed safely in the cot or baby bed before leaving to empty the bathwater.

Dressing the Baby Up

The first step to dressing your baby up is to put the nappy / diaper on. Check for diaper rash as this can irritate the baby’s skin and be painful for him/her. A gentle powder like PIGEON Baby Powder can be used to keep the diaper area and the folds of the skin dry. When using baby powder, first put the powder in your hand, tap the excess away and put a mild coat on the baby’s body. This helps to release the dust in the powder so that the baby does not inhale it. Avoid putting baby powder on the face and neck of the baby.

Wearing loose, breathable clothing will help the baby to feel comfortable and happy. The laundry detergents used to wash your baby’s clothes can also have an effect on his / her skin. Since babies have delicate skin, use mild laundry detergents like PIGEON Baby Laundry Detergent which removes the tough stains that are often on a baby’s clothing without damaging the clothes or the baby’s skin. Always ensure that you give the clothes an extra rinse in plain water to remove any detergent residue.

Baby’s After-Bath Grooming

The best time to trim the baby’s nails is after a bath. When the nails are damp after a bath, they are softer and easier to trim. Use rounded nail scissors like the PIGEON Safety Nail Scissors that are made of rust-proof stainless steel and are designed to trim the baby’s nails without any cuts or piercings. Keeping the nails short and filed helps to prevent the baby from scratching or hurting his / her body.

Comb the baby’s slightly damp hair with a comb with rounded teeth or a brush with very soft bristles. Combing helps to improve blood circulation and helps to keep your baby’s hair tidy and neat. PIGEON Comb & Brush Set has ultra-soft bristles and special rounded teeth that do not scratch baby’s delicate scalp and widely spaced teeth that prevent pulling of baby’s hair.
Once the baby has been fed and puts down to sleep, use gentle oral wipes like PIGEON Baby Tooth & Gum wipes to clean the baby’s mouth. PIGEON’s oral wipes are extremely hygienic, come in individual sterilized sachets, and are made with safe, alcohol-free ingredients.

Keeping the baby clean and well-groomed goes a long way in ensuring that the baby is happy, remains healthy, and does not suffer from rashes or infections.
